we're hiring a summer library assistant





Approx. 15 to 20 hours per week for a 12 week period, including one afternoon/evening shift per week, 1 or 2 morning/afternoon shifts per week and at least 2 Saturdays per month. Weekly schedule may vary as needed for coverage of summer programming, meetings or staff vacation time.

Job duties Include:
• Assist library staff to plan, prep & implement children’s summer programs, including hauling/moving supplies from library to offsite program locations
• Circulation desk duties, check in/out, catalog searching, re-shelving returned materials
• Assist library patrons with locating materials in the catalog and on shelves
• Assist patrons with basic computer issues
• Basic office duties such as photocopying, faxing, scanning, filing, data entry
• Create book & material displays to highlight the library collection
• Sort & pack donated book sale materials, which includes lifting up to 20 lbs
• Cleaning—dusting, vacuuming, wash windows, wipe down toys & high contact surfaces

Minimum Age & Start Date: Candidate must be 18 years of age before start of employment. Employment begins between May 13th and June 3rd.

Skill Requirements: Excellent computer skills, excellent verbal & written communication Ability to work with and assist people of ALL AGES Multi-task in a fast-paced environment Work independently prioritize tasks problem-solve.

Clearances: FBI and PA Criminal Background Checks and PA Child Abuse History Clearance

The ideal candidate will have a genuine interest in working with children & families, be an avid reader familiar with current books for kids & teens, and be enrolled in or have completed post-secondary education in library science, elementary or early childhood education.

Starting rate is $9.00/hour.
