For immediate release:
On Thursday, Aug 21st both the Ringtown Area Library and Frackville Free Public Library will move their library collections onto the internet. By joining the consortium of libraries known as SPARK, our catalogs will be online for our patrons to browse, to renew books already borrowed and to place items in the library's collection on hold to be picked up at a later date.
SPARK is an open source Integrated Library System developed by Evergreen. Evergreen is currently used by over 1000 libraries, both in the U.S. and internationally, and has an active and growing community of developers and users. Evergreen is unique in that it was developed for libraries by librarians, and continues to be managed and developed by its uers.
SPARK is managed by PaILS, a non-profit corporation goverened by a 9 member Board of Directors. It was founded in 2011 to provide a quality, cost-effective ILS that would promote resource sharing among Pennsylvania libraries.
